The Movielife 'This Time Next Year'

Originally released in 2000, This Time Next Year was the record that pushed The Movielife from Long Island scene favorite into one of the defining bands of the era. Building on the momentum of earlier 7"s, compilation appearances and their debut LP, the album sharpened the band’s mix of melodic punk, indie rock and hardcore into something immediate, emotional and unmistakably their own.

Produced by Brian McTernan, whose credits include Snapcase, Cave In and Texas Is The Reason, This Time Next Year balances huge hooks with the urgency and bite of the band’s hardcore roots. The songs are fast, melodic and deeply personal, with the kind of choruses that helped make The Movielife a staple of early-2000s punk and emo.

More than two decades later, the album still feels like a key document of that moment, sitting at the intersection of melodic hardcore, pop-punk and emo just before those worlds fully collided.
