Piebald 'Tales For The Rages'

Tales For The Rages is Piebald’s first full-length album in nineteen years, bringing one of indie rock and emo’s most singular bands back with thirteen songs that sound unmistakably like Piebald without simply trying to recreate the past.

Written and recorded between 2019 and 2025 following the band’s 2016 reunion, the album grew slowly from years of riffs, melodies, lyrics, and friendship. Songs like “Still On The Couch,” “This Thing Is Old,” “Used to Good Advantage,” “Gentlemen Callers,” and “More Month Than Money” carry the enormous hooks, vocal harmonies, sharp humor, and restless guitar work that have defined the band since the ’90s.

But Tales For The Rages is more than a reunion record. Across the album, Piebald reflect on aging, friendship, inequality, consumerism, political frustration, and trying to remain connected to the people and things that give life meaning. The result feels less like looking backward than four longtime friends figuring out what Piebald should sound like now.

The record was recorded and produced by longtime collaborator Doug Batchelder at The Den in North Reading, Massachusetts, mixed by Jay Maas, whose production work includes Title Fight and Citizen, and mastered by Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden.

Nearly three decades into their history, Piebald still occupy an unusual space between emo, indie rock, melodic punk, post-hardcore, and power pop, pairing deeply sincere songwriting with the wit and personality that made records like We Are the Only Friends We Have so enduring. Tales For The Rages proves that the things people loved about Piebald were never dependent on a particular era.
