Loma Prieta 'Self Portrait'

Originally released in 2015, Self Portrait is the fifth full-length from Loma Prieta, the San Francisco band known for pushing screamo and hardcore into increasingly melodic, chaotic and emotionally charged territory.

Recorded by Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden Recording Studio, the album balances abrasion and beauty in equal measure. Feedback-drenched guitars, fractured rhythms and desperate vocals collide with moments of melody and atmosphere, giving the record a sense of movement that feels both unpredictable and deeply cohesive.

Tracks like “Love,” “Black Square,” “Roadside Cross,” “Net Gain,” “Nostalgia” and “Satellite” move effortlessly between screamo, hardcore and post-hardcore, capturing a band that had fully developed its own language by this point in its career.

Released by Deathwish Inc., Self Portrait stands as one of Loma Prieta’s most complete records, balancing raw intensity with the kind of emotional and melodic detail that reveals more with every listen.
