Harvey Milk 'A Small Turn Of Human Kindness'

Originally released in 2010, A Small Turn of Human Kindness is one of Harvey Milk’s bleakest and most uncompromising records, stripping their sound down to seven interconnected movements of crushing sludge, doom and emotional exhaustion.

Rather than functioning as a conventional collection of songs, the album unfolds like a single continuous piece. Each track bleeds into the next, building a slow, deliberate arc of tension, collapse and release. Massive riffs and long stretches of restraint give every shift in volume enormous weight, while Creston Spiers’ vocals push the record even further into despair and catharsis.

Tracks including “I Just Want to Go Home,” “I Am Sick of All This Too,” “I Alone Got Up and Left” and the closing “I Did Not Call Out” form a deeply cohesive sequence that rewards hearing the album from beginning to end rather than as isolated songs.

Recorded in Athens, Georgia, A Small Turn of Human Kindness finds Harvey Milk leaning fully into the slow, difficult side of their music, creating a record that feels less like traditional doom metal than a carefully constructed emotional descent.

Dense, punishing and strangely beautiful, it remains one of the most severe statements in the Harvey Milk catalog.
