Gouge Away ‘Burnt Sugar’

Originally released in 2018, Burnt Sugar is the second full-length from Gouge Away, pushing the Florida band’s hardcore foundation into darker, more dynamic territory.

Produced by Jeremy Bolm of Touché Amoré and recorded by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Loma Prieta), the album balances explosive hardcore with noise rock, post-hardcore and moments of tense restraint. Christina Michelle’s vocals move from controlled melody to raw intensity as the band shifts between jagged riffs, atmospheric passages and sudden bursts of aggression.

Songs like “Only Friend,” “Ghost,” “Hey Mercy” and “Wilt” capture Gouge Away expanding their sound without sacrificing the urgency that defined their earlier material.
