Candy Hearts 'You Could Be Anyone'

You Could Be Anyone collects Candy Hearts’ B-sides, demos, acoustic recordings, and rarities from 2010 through 2016, offering a time capsule of the New Jersey pop-punk band’s original run.

Fronted by singer-songwriter Mariel Loveland, Candy Hearts paired deeply personal writing with huge hooks and a heavy dose of ’90s alternative rock. Somewhere between Taylor Swift and The Breeders, their songs turned anxiety, heartbreak, growing up, and everyday disasters into bright, instantly memorable pop-rock.

The collection reaches across the band’s history, from early bedroom recordings through the era surrounding All The Ways You Let Me Down, their 2014 album produced with Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory and recognized by Billboard among the year’s best pop albums. Candy Hearts spent those years touring alongside The Story So Far, Real Friends, Set It Off, and appearing on the Vans Warped Tour.

For Loveland, these songs document a version of herself that could never really be recreated: “These songs are like a time capsule of my youth, from high school crushes to touring for the first time to fearing the weight of the adulthood that I now exist in... They still have a carefree attitude, vulnerability, honesty, and youthful energy that I could never replicate today. They’re so special to me.” - Mariel Loveland
