Love Letter 'Death of a Nation'

Originally released in 2018 under the name Death of a Nation, this four-song 12" EP captures the earliest version of what would later become Love Letter.

Featuring Quinn Murphy of Verse alongside founding Defeater members Jay Maas and Andrew Reitz, the EP was first issued by No Sleep Records in a limited pressing of 500 copies. Years later, the project evolved into Love Letter, and the record was reintroduced under the band’s new name through Iodine Recordings.

Across “Don’t Speak for Me,” “No Love from Above,” “The United States of Amnesiacs,” and “Metaphors for Murderers,” the band channels political frustration, personal conviction, and the tension between anger and compassion into four urgent songs rooted in New England hardcore. The record was produced and engineered by Jay Maas, whose work includes Bane, Title Fight, and Defeater.

The Iodine edition features updated packaging with hand-numbered obi strips and was limited to just 150 copies, making it an even smaller physical edition than the original No Sleep pressing.

Death of a Nation is both a standalone snapshot of a turbulent moment and the first chapter in the band that would go on to release Everyone Wants Something Beautiful as Love Letter.
