hey thanks. 'Avoidance'

Avoidance is the second full-length from Louisiana’s hey thanks., pushing the band into a darker, synth-driven mix of post-punk, new wave, indie rock, and pop.

Where 2022’s Start/Living leaned closer to emo and alternative rock, Avoidance opens the sound up with layered synthesizers, sharp guitars, live percussion, and bright rhythms that pull from the atmosphere of The Cure and DIIV without losing the hooks at the center of the band’s songwriting.

Across 12 songs including “Forward,” “Recollection,” “TENSION,” “The World Behind You,” and the title track, the record circles questions of time, identity, isolation, love, and the distance between who you are and who you thought you would become. There are no tidy resolutions here. Thoughts repeat, memories blur, and the songs keep moving even when their narrators can’t.

The album was recorded entirely in the band’s home studio, built piece by piece from live drum samples, layered percussion, guitars, and dense synth arrangements. It was produced by Travis Opal and Trevor Lee, engineered and mixed by Opal, and mastered by Mike Kalajian at Rogue Planet.

Released by Iodine Recordings on vinyl and CD.
