Drowningman 'Later Day Saints'

Later Day Saints marked Drowningman’s first new music in 16 years, bringing the Burlington, Vermont hardcore band back with two songs that sound unmistakably like Drowningman without trying to recreate the late ’90s.

Across “Navigating Grief and Loss in a Pre-Apocalyptic Landscape” and “It Will End in Cops,” dissonant guitars, abrupt rhythmic shifts, melody, and Simon Brody’s caustic vocals collide in the way that originally made the band such an important part of the Hydra Head, Revelation, and Equal Vision era of technical hardcore and post-hardcore.

Recorded between December 2021 and January 2022 at Underground Studios in Randolph, Vermont, Later Day Saints was produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Vincent Freeman. The recording features Simon Brody, Javin Leonard, TJ Maynard, Matt Roy, and Kevin Savage, with artwork and design by Rhys Meatyard.

For a band whose catalog includes Busy Signal at the Suicide Hotline, a split with The Dillinger Escape Plan, and releases for Hydra Head and Revelation Records, Later Day Saints feels less like a nostalgia exercise than Drowningman picking up the argument exactly where they left it.

“The truth is ‘violence’ has become very casual. Wilder death threats are made every minute on the internet than you will find in any Drowningman song. Violence is now done at arms length, typed into someone's comments, via press release, or by certified mail. Whatever happened to settling things on the front yard? At the end of the day, I'm proud of what we did here.” - Simon Brody, Drowningman
