Drought 'EP'

EP is the three-song debut from Drought, the Bay Area post-hardcore band whose emotionally charged sound blends screamo, emo, hardcore, and atmospheric rock.

Formed in 2022, Drought bring together years of experience from across the hardcore underground, channeling personal loss, adulthood, illness, and uncertainty into songs that feel both intimate and cathartic. The EP was recorded by Ryan Ellery at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland and mastered by James Trevascus.

Across “Consequential Love,” “Oh, Javelin!” and “MacArthur Station,” Drought move between restrained melody and explosive release, drawing from the emotional weight of bands like Touché Amoré, Pianos Become the Teeth, and mewithoutYou without sounding like a copy of any of them.

The songs are rooted in deeply personal experiences. “Oh, Javelin!” was written during a period when guitarist RJ Rabe was battling cancer and drummer Ray Avila’s father was ill, giving the record much of its sense of urgency and reflection.

Originally released digitally in 2023, the EP was pressed to 7" vinyl by Iodine Recordings in 2024, marking the band’s first physical release and setting the stage for their debut full-length, Souvenir.

“With a sonic palette pulling from both classic screamo and post-hardcore, Drought are clearly aiming to capture a certain spirit.” — No Echo
