Brutal Truth 'Sounds of the Animal Kingdom'

Sounds of the Animal Kingdom is the defining 1997 full-length from Brutal Truth, a landmark of American grindcore that pushed the genre far beyond speed alone.

Across its sprawling runtime, the band moves from violent bursts of grind and death metal into noise, psychedelia, industrial abrasion, and deliberately disorienting experimentation. The result is one of the most ambitious and uncompromising records in Brutal Truth’s catalog, and one of the essential extreme-metal albums of the 1990s.

Originally released in 1997, Sounds of the Animal Kingdom has now been fully remastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege and returns to vinyl for the first time in more than 20 years. This 2026 Relapse Records edition gives the album renewed weight and clarity without sanding down any of its chaos.

“From startling exercises in savage brevity to disorientating psych-rock squalls, it’s grind with no brakes, no safety net and absolutely no fear.” — Metal Hammer
