American Nightmare 'Year One: 25th Anniversary'

American Nightmare’s Year One collects the recordings that helped reshape hardcore at the beginning of the 2000s. Bringing together the Boston band’s first two 7”s on one 12” LP, these twelve tracks capture American Nightmare at their earliest and most volatile, pairing fast, uncompromising hardcore with Wesley Eisold’s bleak, intensely personal lyrics.

Originally released as a collection in 2001, Year One includes early staples like “The Ice Age Is Coming,” “There’s a Black Hole in the Shadow of the Pru,” “Hearts” and “Fuck What Fireworks Stand For.” All of the material was recorded by Kurt Ballou of Converge at God City, documenting the formative period of a band that would become one of the most influential names in modern hardcore. 

For the 25th Anniversary Edition, Year One returns on 180-gram vinyl in an expanded gatefold package. The original design by Jake Bannon of Converge has been reimagined by Del Jae and Wesley Eisold, with an insert featuring handwritten lyrics and collaged archival imagery. 

An essential document of early-2000s Boston hardcore and the starting point for American Nightmare’s enduring influence.
