American Nightmare ‘When We Were Young’

Recorded live at CBGB on December 10, 2000, When We Were Young captures American Nightmare at the very beginning, just as the Boston hardcore band was beginning to become one of the defining voices of a new generation.

Featuring the early lineup of Wes Eisold, Tim Cossar, Brian Masek, Alex Garcia-Rivera and Brandon Wallace, the seven-song set was recorded directly from the CBGB soundboard for just $25 by Lucas Gonzalez and later mastered by Will Killingsworth.

The set tears through early American Nightmare staples including “The Ice Age Is Coming,” “Please Die!,” “Sore Throat Syndrome,” “Fuck What Fireworks Stand For,” “The Day The Music Died” and “Protest Song 00,” documenting the band in its rawest formative stage.

Released as a one-time pressing of 2,500 7”s in a gatefold jacket, When We Were Young is an essential snapshot of American Nightmare before the records, tours and influence that would make them one of the most important hardcore bands of the 2000s.

The show line-up was Tear It Up, American Nightmare, Reach The Sky, Bane & Mouthpiece, and was booked by Rich Hall / 1000 Knives. Limited to a one-time pressing of 2,500 copies.
