Godflesh 'Decay'

GODFLESH return with Decay, their tenth and penultimate album, another stark and punishing chapter in the band’s nearly four-decade history.

The six-track record was born from the same sessions that produced 2023’s Purge. Justin Broadrick originally envisioned the material as part of the same larger body of work, later returning to reshape the songs into an album of its own.

Where Purge leaned into hypnotic repetition and mechanical force, Decay pushes further into bleak, stripped-down territory. The massive opening track “Master and Slave” and crawling closer “Consume Me” form the record’s conceptual center, surrounding a series of dense, grinding songs built from the unmistakable collision of Broadrick’s guitar and voice with Ben Green’s bass.

For Broadrick, Decay also arrives as GODFLESH approaches the end of its active life. After decades spent using the band as a vessel for physical, mental and existential weight, he describes the record as part of a final movement toward something new.

“It expresses my pain, and I’ve put my body and soul into this expression for the majority of my existence.”
