By this time, There Were Wires had matured as song writers and constructed songs considerably longer and more intricate than anything previously written. These tracks belied much of the frenetic energy of earlier works, moving glacially at times, winding tension with extended buildups and clean vocals while still maintaining its intensity. Somnambulists was not only a dramatic departure from the punchy abruptness of their earlier sound, but a welcomed one, as well - the record was met with much acclaim from fans and critics alike. Somnambulists is a full album experience that combines heavy, droning, and bluesy riffs with atmospheric interludes. At that time, bands like Orchid, Reversal of Man, and pageninetynine were making similarly polemic music. But Jeromes Dream carved its own path and helped to define the subgenre that would come to be known as emo-violence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn 2001, Jeromes Dream recorded and released their final record “Presents” before disbanding that same year. “Presents” was a deliberate departure from anything the band did previously, which included a more refined and technical sound and new vocal stylings from singer Jeff Smith. On “Presents” Jeromes Dream felt that they were creatively in uncharted territory, and embraced it throughout the writing process. It was a liberating time for the band, and they did not adhere to rules or preconceived notions as to how the album “should” sound. “Presents” was simultaneously cynical and personal, and yet still drew from the depths of their collective creative expression. Jeromes Dream development of “Presents” culminated in early 2001 when they worked with Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou at God City Studios, bringing the record to life before being released. “Presents” remains an important installation of Jeromes Dream, and a work that they remain proud of.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 2018, Jeromes Dream announced that they would reunite and begin writing a new record together as a band. The response was overwhelming, with fans from all over the world hailing the reunion. In March 2019 the band entered the studio and created a 12-song untitled LP, which they released on their own label, Microspy. Shortly after the LP release, Jeromes Dream became a fully active band again and spent the better part of the following year on tour with the likes of Loma Prieta, Gouge Away, Soul Glo, Touché Amoré, and Daughters. Before everything halted with the pandemic.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAround the same time, Jeromes Dream began talks with Iodine Recordings about a “Presents” reissue on vinyl for its 20-year anniversary, shortly after the label announced its return following a 17-year hiatus. Jeromes Dream and Iodine Recordings shared a history together going back to the band’s formation in 1997 when Iodine included one of the band’s first demo tracks on the seminal “Ghost in the Gears” compilation. The band has mastered the art of writing infectiously catchy songs with deeply personal lyrics, while still remaining upbeat and fun. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAudio Karate spent the early 2000s touring heavily and shared stages with bands like Blink-182, NOFX, The Ataris, Face to Face, and had many Van’s Warped Tour appearances. Their first studio album “Space Camp” was met with much acclaim from critics and fans, and the band was often featured on MTV and Fuse TV. Their follow up album “Lady Melody” was produced by Bill Stevenson of the Descendents. The record straddled pop-punk convention and technical oddity, with unique key changes and riffs that seemed to sound “wrong” while sounding gloriously right. Even Stevenson wondered how they did it, marveling at times during their recording sessions: “Technically, this shouldn’t work.” \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAudio Karate went on a long Hiatus in 2006 and returned in 2018 to record their third album “Malo” for Wiretap Records and support their idols, Descendents, on a U.S. tour. Shortly after their return, the band began working with Iodine Recordings for anther release. “¡OTRA!” is a collection of their rare and unreleased material that spans the history of the band and feature works produced by Bill Stevenson (Descendents\/ALL) and Trever Keith (Face to Face). Featuring guest vocals by Agent M \/ Emily Whitehurst of Tsunami Bomb and new original artwork by Chris Shary (Descendents\/Teenage Bottlerocket). “¡OTRA!” contains some of Audio Karate’s best songs that have never been released on vinyl.
